Your Style Story
As a lover of 60s fashion, you are NOT afraid of color. Channeling the vivacious spirit of fashion and interior design styles of the 60s, you’re ready to take on the challenge of designing a bathroom that’s anything but ordinary. Inspired by the geometric genius of fashion powerhouses like Pucci and Rudi Gernreich, you’re eager to incorporate their daring aesthetics into your space. Color-blocking, with its’ right-angled geometry and super-saturated hues makes you happy. Sixties French Pop singer Sylvie Vartan plays repeatedly on your turntable. In fact, you even named your dog Cadmium after your favorite color, Cadmium Red (however, you ARE embracing additional colors this year, promise!).
But why should fashion have all the fun? It’s time to bring that fearless approach home. Your bathroom is your personal sanctuary, your private retreat, it needs to welcome and inspire you. Time to roll up the sleeves on that Pucci dress, turn up your favorite Vartan track and get hands-on with your bespoke sanctuary.

The Appeal Of Geometry In Vibrant Interior Design
The use of geometry in design and interiors has been popular for centuries. Humans have an innate love for symmetry and order, and geometric shapes help us achieve this balance. In interior design, geometric patterns can add depth and interest to a space without overwhelming it. They also have a modern edge that can make a space feel fresh and current.
One of the most popular ways to incorporate geometry and color is using modern geometric prints. Some popular geometric patterns include hexagons, chevron and herringbone designs. These lines, shapes and angles can be used in tile applied to the walls or floors. Additionally, geometrically shaped accent furniture, lighting fixtures, and accessories can lend an air of modernity to your space. Try adding a faucet in a bold and vibrant color to create an eye-catching statement piece that pulls the entire room together.
Add Pops of Color For Visual Interest
In this graphic, airy bathroom, the use of Cerulean Blue was intentional and purposeful. As our client’s favorite color, we wanted to incorporate it in a curated way that would make them happy each time they used the room. The bold, monochromatic tile pattern flows down the wall onto the floor, echoing the movement of water itself. An angular toilet, rectangular sink and custom walnut cabinet with a colorful interior add to the overall design. The bathroom didn’t have access to any exterior walls, so we created a framed view of the bright blue sky and palm trees right outside to serve as a window for the space.

Get Inspired by the Supergraphics at The Sea Ranch
- History and Influence of The Sea Ranch Supergraphics: The Sea Ranch, located on the Northern California coast, is renowned for its distinctive architecture and bold Supergraphics, making it a modernist icon. This community was designed in the early 1960s by a group of Bay Area architects and designers with a vision for a progressive and inclusive community that harmonized with the natural environment. Barbara Stauffacher Solomon, a San Francisco-based graphic and landscape designer, created the Supergraphics at The Sea Ranch in 1966. Her work is noted for blending Swiss Modernism with West Coast Pop, creating a unique style known as California Cool. This style has been influential in the field of graphic design. Solomon’s Supergraphics express bold forms, primary colors, and energy. These graphics were rendered at a building scale, wrapping around architectural canvases and transforming the perception of space. Interestingly, Solomon drew inspiration from modernism and her training as a painter, not the Hippie movement of California at the time.
- Design Principles Behind Supergraphics: Oversized, bold geometric shapes and bright, primary colors define Supergraphics. They are designed to alter and enhance architectural spaces, often distorting the viewer’s perception of proportions and dimensions. Solomon’s approach to Supergraphics at The Sea Ranch involved a creative integration of modern art with architecture, using vivid graphics to create a sense of harmony with the surrounding natural setting. Her work often involved straight lines and forms, influenced by her collaboration with sign painters and her background in modernism and painting.
- Incorporating Supergraphics at Home: Bold geometric patterns and bright colors can transform a space, making it more dynamic and visually engaging. In home interiors, these can be applied as wall murals, large-scale artworks, or even as part of architectural elements like partitions or doors. The key is to use these graphics thoughtfully to complement the space without overwhelming it.
- How to Add Supergraphics to Your Bathroom: Incorporating Supergraphics into your vibrant interior design idea can be an exciting way to bring a bold and dynamic element into the space.
DIY Supergraphics Painting: Creating your own Supergraphics can be a DIY project. You can use simple tools like string and pencil for geometric shapes like circles. For straight lines, a ruler or a yardstick is essential. Paint masking tape is very helpful for ensuring steady lines.Printing Methods and Substrates for Supergraphics: There are various printing methods available for creating Supergraphics, such as UV-cured inkjet printing, which offers a balance of quality, cost, and durability. When selecting materials, consider the environment where the supergraphic will be installed. There are also options like custom-printed impact wall panels that offer aesthetic appeal and durability.
